The rush of packing the binders, backpacks, pens, pencils… Making sure that the hair and outfit are impeccable for that perfect “first day” picture. Wondering what sort of classes and teachers await. Each year, the first day of school brings with it the excitement and thrill of a dive into an unknown adventure!
For some, that adventure comes with anxiety: the expense of school supplies, new clothes, lunch money, backpacks, etc…
For nearly twenty years, Vantage Credit Union has collected supplies and monetary donations in order to lessen the worry of that first day of school. Our efforts benefit two local charities, Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition of Greater St. Louis and KidSmart, which empowers children in need to succeed in school by providing free essential tools for learning.
This year our members and staff donated nearly 4,000 different items to KidSmart, including over 500 pencil/pen packs, nearly 900 folders and binders, and countless essentials for the new school year. As one volunteer said, “Over and over again, we watched jaws drop and eyes widen” as the kids saw all of the different backpacks and supplies. In addition to the items donated, we collectively raised $1,270.09 for Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition of Greater St. Louis. Talk about coming together as a community to help make the first day of school a sprinting start to success!
Vantage was founded as a teachers’ credit union, and we take pride in our strong ties to the educational community. In addition to supporting local charities and our members on the front lines of education, we also offer a variety of free educational programs that teach smart finances. Our Secret Savers Club teaches children age 10 and under the importance of saving money, and our Money Matters program is designed to teach students of all ages about establishing good credit and smart financial habits. We also award college scholarships to young members annually through our Quest For Education scholarship program.
Vantage is proud to continue working alongside our members, staff, and teachers to help ensure that those first days of school are as stress free as possible. We want to thank all of our members who so generously partnered with us to help support KidSmart and Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition of Greater St. Louis. Thank you!
And, from all of us here at Vantage Credit Union: Good luck on your new school year!
